Review: Badger 001

Writer: Michael Baron Artist: Jim Fern Colorist: Paul Mounts Cover: Paul Pope First Comics Devils Due Entertainment War is hell. Norbert Sykes knows this. War can fracture a person's psyche. But what if your psyche is already on the edge? Norbert does his best to cope, taking on an assignment that allows him to feel normal, working with a K-9 unit. Since losing his partner, people believe him to have gone off the deep end. If only they knew. Michael Baron hits us with a blast from the past: With a newly relaunched Badger and a newly relaunched First Comics! For a first issue this was fantastic. Michael does a great job of getting deep into the mind of a person on the brink. On the edge of the precipice of greatness. Jim Ferns art fits perfectly with this reimaging of this cult hero. From the paneling, to the details of the backgrounds. Paul Mounts also brings in his beautiful colors. Bold shades and sharp lines make this issue a treat to read, as well as to examine all the nuances. Paul Pope's cover, to me, is catching to the eye. Our hero, bright and bold, striking a dynamic pose, set against a dark and visious Badger. The coloring and detailing of the badger is what impressed me with this cover. From the impressive details of the fangs, to the fine lines of the coarse fur... Complete awesomeness. I, for one, am excited at this relaunch, and feel privileged to be one of the first few to review this book. We have comic legends doing what they do best! It's stuff like this that makes me glad, and I say this with pride, to be a comic book nerd! Rating: 5/5
