Review: The X-Files Season 10 001
X-Files Season 10, what a simply great concept for a comic series, and co-written by Chris Carter, how could this go wrong? Well, guess what, it doesn't: It's pitch perfect. I love the X-Files. Every single episode from every single season was just a joy to me. I love the characters, the concepts, the themes and damn it I love those little bald bastards with the almond shaped eyes that scare the crap out of me every time I see them. Right out of the gate this book takes us right where the show and the movies left off. Fox Mulder and Dana Scully have been relocated via Witness Protection under the name Blake and have both taken to their mundane jobs as writer and doctor respectively. After the typical teaser intro you'd expect in an episode, we find Scully being chased down by mysterious men with glowing eyes. Then flashback to earlier that day, in typical X-Files style, they tell us how she got there. Mulder spends his time at home writing his memoirs from his days as a Special Agent when ADA Walter Skinner comes calling; telling the couple that the FBI Database has been hacked and the X-Files were the likely targets. Skinner and Scully both get attacked by these mysterious men and the issue ends on a cliffhanger. This issue was immensely enjoyable. Mulder and Scully's voices have been found within this script and that is due in no small part to Chris Carter being involved with the story and dialog. The art isn't anything to write home about but it does a great job of telling the story and not being flashy like most IDW titles with way too much color correction and lighting effects. If this issue is the shape of things to come with The X-Files (comics) I'm on board for the whole run. Everything about the tone and the dialog just screams like an episode of the show. I'm fully impressed. Cover: 7 Art: 6 Writing: 10 Average 8.2 #cbinews #cbireviews #xfiles #brianlloyd #idwcomics
